Privacy Policy

1. Who we are١.

Mushrook ("the app") is operated by AKA Tech Solutions Company, a company registered in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Commercial Registration No. 7054538264). For the purposes of this policy, AKA Tech Solutions is the data controller.

2. Information we collect٢.

We collect only what we need to provide the app:

• Account information — your email address, display name, an optional profile photo, and an optional @username. You sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password. If you use Google or Apple we receive your name, email address and profile photo from them; we never receive your Google or Apple password. If you use email and password, the password is stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider — we cannot read it.
• How friends find you — if you choose to be findable, the identifiers you pick (your @username and/or your verified email address) are stored in a lookup directory so that someone who already knows that exact identifier can add you. The directory cannot be browsed or listed, and you can turn each identifier off at any time in the app.
• Bank details you choose to add — bank name, IBAN and account number, if you choose to save them so friends can pay you back. They are visible only to people you share a group or an expense with, and they are included in a WhatsApp settle-up message only when you are the one due to receive a transfer. Removing them in the app removes them for everyone.
• Content you create — groups (including a group's budget, to-do list, cover photo and admin settings), friends you add, expenses, amounts, splits, settlements, notes, categories, and any receipt photos you choose to upload.
• Invitations — when you add a person who has a Mushrook account as a friend or to a group, they receive an invitation that shows your display name and, for a group, the group's name. We keep the invitation and whether it was accepted or declined so that both of you can see it. Until they accept, they cannot see the group or the expenses; you can still include them in a split. If you share a group's invite link, anyone who has the link and is signed in to Mushrook can see the group's name, cover, number of members and your display name, and can join the group — share it only with people you want in the group.
• Device & technical data — app version, device type and operating system, language and currency preferences, and a push-notification token if you enable notifications. The app also checks whether its version is still supported so it can ask you to update; that check sends no personal data.
• Usage data — which features you use and when (for example that an expense was added and split equally in a group of four, a group was created, a payment was recorded, or a screen was opened), together with the app version, device model, operating system and language. This is collected through Google Analytics for Firebase under a random app identifier; it never includes names, amounts, descriptions, photos or who paid whom, and we do not use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps or websites. We use it to understand which features matter and to improve the app.
• Support communications — messages you send us by email.

We do not collect your device contacts automatically. People you split with are added by you manually. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. How we use information٣.

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To provide core features: tracking shared expenses, calculating balances, and simplifying settle-ups.
• To send notifications you have enabled (for example, when an expense is added, a payment is recorded or cancelled, or you are invited to a group).
• To respond to support requests and improve the app's reliability and performance.

Anonymised statistics. We may analyse how Mushrook is used in aggregated, anonymised form — for example the share of spending that goes to food, transport or other categories, typical amounts per person or per group, currencies used, and which features are popular. Before any such analysis, names, email addresses, usernames, photos, bank details, expense descriptions and receipt images are removed, and results are reported only for groups of users large enough that no individual can be singled out. Anonymised statistics are not personal data: we may use them to improve Mushrook, for research and reporting, and may share or publish them. We never sell information that identifies you.

4. Legal basis٤.

We process your data to perform the service you request (your use of the app), to comply with legal obligations, and on the basis of your consent where required — for example, for push notifications. You may withdraw consent at any time through your device settings.

5. Sharing & service providers٥.

We share data only with service providers who help us run the app, under agreements that limit their use of it:نشارك البيانات فقط مع مزوّدي خدمات يساعدوننا في تشغيل التطبيق، وبموجب اتفاقيات تقيّد استخدامهم لها:

• Google Firebase (Google Cloud) — authentication, database, file storage, push notifications, and usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase).
• Google and Apple sign-in — only if you choose to sign in with them, to confirm who you are.
• Anthropic (AI provider) — only when you choose to scan a receipt photo for its line items: the photo is sent to be read and the extracted text is returned to the app. Their API terms do not allow it to be used to train their models. Scanning a ZATCA QR code happens entirely on your device and sends nothing.
• Exchange-rate provider — to display currency conversions (no personal data is shared).
• WhatsApp — only when you choose to share a reminder, a summary or an invite; the message is sent from your own device.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the app.

6. Where your data is stored٦.

Your data is hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure in the Dammam (me-central2) region inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some service providers may process limited data outside the Kingdom; where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards consistent with the PDPL.

7. Data retention٧.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, deletion happens immediately:

• Deleted: your profile, email address, @username, sign-in, friends list, activity history, bank details, notification tokens, the photos and receipt images you uploaded, and any group or expense that only you could see. You also stop being findable by anyone.
• Kept, under your display name only: groups and expenses you shared with other people. They are those people's financial records too, so they stay — showing your name and the amounts, with your account link and photo removed and a note that the account was deleted. You lose all access to them.

Receipt photos are kept for 90 days. A receipt photo you attach to an expense is deleted automatically 90 days after it was uploaded. The expense itself — its amount, split and items — stays.

Backups held by our cloud provider are overwritten on their normal cycle. We may keep limited records where the law requires us to.

8. Your rights & choices٨.

9. Security٩.

We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to notify you and the authorities of any breach as required.

10. Children

If you believe a minor has provided us data, please contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the "last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated within the app where appropriate.
